Tonight I watched the 87 lighting of the NYC Christmas Tree and have been looking for websites that ID trees. I plan to collect native trees (seedlings) on my property to transplant onto Indian Island - just off the south coast of Long Island in Lindenhurst in Springtime.

for starters. Why didn't I ever observe fruit on sassafras or wonder how it made babies on my property? I feel foolish I never thought more deeply about this. I have several that I will dig up for Indian Island.
I donated 70 - 80 vegetable plants to the church rectory vegetable garden to grow for their Monday night food program, Nourishing Babylon.
Reverend Clare Nesmith is a visionary who saw to fruition the creation of the garden at the rectory and the Monday night dinners for those in need.
I want to help next year by organizing what plants the kitchen will need and then start the seeds in early Spring.
